Bio

My name is Sean O'Neil, and I am a freshman at UMO. My hometown is Biddeford, ME, which is a good two-and-a-half hours of driving south of Orono. I take education seriously: I've taken an AP Environmental Science, an AP US History, and an AP Composition course, and I served on my city's school board for two years as a student representative; however, my attitude towards education contrasts with my other interests: video games and drawing. I've worked with Adobe Flash Macromedia to make animation for use in games, movies, and program interfaces. I want to try my hand at 3D rendering and use Flash again outside of the Virtual High School course that I took online. I see myself doing concept and graphics design for movies, games, or literature. I could work with backgrounds, character design, and possibly voice acting; otherwise, I could fall back on comics or political cartoons (from my journalism experience in the prior year.)

Creative Statement

I'm studying New Media in the hopes that I will be able to be able to be doing one or more of the above professionally. I know the designing media I have used already will be outdated by the time I leave college, so I want to have experience not just with specific programs or technologies, but be able to learn concepts and techniques that can transfer over to other media. I'd enjoy being able to tell the stories created by others or myself-- capturing the specific descriptions and intentions of the writer and his or her characters through art.

Creative Procedure
This is how I like to create characters:
  1. Brainstorm
  2. Portrait
  3. Action Sketches
  4. First Draft Sketch
  5. Digital Rendering of First Sketch
  6. Final Product
